Barcelona are set to appear at Camp Nou for the first time ahead of the 2022/23 season as they take on Pumas UNAM in the Joan Gamper trophy tonight.

The Catalans have already announced their squad for the game, featuring new signings Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, while Samuel Umtiti and Martin Braithwaite are the two notable absentees.

While fans are understandably excited about the prospect of seeing Lewandowski in action, they have also showered their existing stars with love, with Pedri, in particular, receiving a standing ovation from the supporters in the lead-up to the game.

As posted by the official Twitter account of FC Barcelona, the fans were seen chanting Pedri’s name just before the start of the game.

Regarded as one of the most promising young players in world football, Pedri had a rather disappointing 2021/22 campaign as it was marred by injuries. He could only appear in a little more than ten league matches.

However, having returned to full fitness in the summer, Pedri is raring to go and is keen on becoming the creative lynchpin for a Barcelona side threatening to take Europe by storm, following an excellent summer transfer window.
