The international break gives content creators a chance to speak about a slightly wider range of topics than just the grind of game after game, and on the London is Blue podcast this week they had Ben Jacobs on to discuss his thoughts

He had some really interesting information on the Club World Cup to come this summer:

“My understanding is that the squad for the Club World Cup will be 35 players, so quite a big pool of players. So there may therefore be scope to use a variety of loanees that are returning, young players, new signings, all factored in.”

So in the end this tournament is going to be a fascinating mixture – a post-season, preseason tournament with vast amount of money on the line, featuring some players who have just arrived and others which will leave before the summer is done.

Half the games will feel like friendlies, half like Champions League knockout games. Given we’ve suffered a year in the Conference League, we can’t deny we’re excited to be back on the big stage again in this novel tournament.

In Chelsea’s case, it’s still not clear who will be available. It was claimed not long ago that signings agreed to arrive this summer like Dario Essugo would be able to play, but that’s not yet decided:

“Right now, FIFA are waiting for member confederations – so the FA in Chelsea’s case – to see if they’re going to allow for this 1st to 10th of June so-called “exceptional window” in which teams can formally make signings between now and the Club World Cup,” Jacobs explained.

“Every single country federation can decide differently…. so there is an eventuality where the FA say no.”
