Manchester United’s Axel Tuanzebe is making quite a name for himself. After a scintillating performance against Ligue 1 champions and last season’s Champions League finalists Paris-Saint Germain in the Reds’ first Group H match on Tuesday, the young defender has emerged as a contender to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice centre-back.

Tuanzebe, 22, joined United’s youth academy all the way back in 2005 and has since gone on to climb his way through the club’s world-famous ranks to force his way into the senior first-team.

Having spent the 2018-19 season out on loan with Aston Villa, the young Englishman returned to Old Trafford to fight for his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s back-line.

Despite a successful loan spell with Villa, Tuanzebe’s development was hampered by a spate of unfortunate injuries which caused the young defender to miss a total of 35 matches.

However, having recently returned back to full fitness, Tuanzebe was recalled back into action during his side’s important Champions League opener against PSG on Monday.

Faced with the task of keeping PSG duo Neymar Jnr and Kylian Mbappe quiet, the Englishman did not disappoint.

Tuanzebe was arguably United’s best player on the pitch after putting in a performance reminiscent of some of Europe’s most commanding centre-backs.

The talented defender showcased not just his aerial presence, but also his ability to make recovery runs and perfectly timed last-ditch tackles.

You can see his best bits in the video below.
