Nigeria’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations have suffered a huge blow with the news that Victor Boniface has been forced to withdraw from the squad due to injury.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker – who has scored 16 goals in 23 games at club level this season – is suffering from a groin injury which is likely to keep him out until February.
He will therefore not travel to Cote d’Ivoire for the tournament, with Terem Moffi drafted in to replace him, subject to approval from OGC Nice.
The Super Eagles kick-off their tournament when they take on Equatorial Guinea in Ebimpé on Sunday.
