Inter veteran striker Marko Arnautovic has gone from a near-certain departure to one of Simone Inzaghi’s most in-form stars. According to Calciomercato, the 35-year-old’s renaissance in the second half of the 2024/25 campaign could earn him a new contract at the San Siro.
Arnautovic’s second stint at Inter seemed to be heading to a sorrowful end. His contract is due to expire in June. With Oaktree Capital Management eager to focus on young players, everyone had expected the Nerazzurri to show Arnautovic the door in the coming months.
However, the ex-Bologna center-forward may have secured a lifeline at Inter after turning his fortunes around in 2025. Indeed, after failing to score in his first 23 league matches this season, Arnautovic has netted four in his last five Serie A appearances.
Arnautovic’s match-winning performance catapulted Inter to a 3-1 home win against Cagliari. With a goal and an assist, Arnautovic won the ‘Man of the Match’ award and perhaps convinced the Nerazzurri owners to extend his expiring contract for another year.
It’s still too early to make predictions. Yet, there’s no doubt that Inter could renew their aging star’s deal, especially if Inzaghi continues to insist on it. Unlike Mehdi Taremi, Arnautovic has scored some vital goals for the club this season and deserves the benefit of the doubt.
If Inter had to choose between Taremi and Arnautovic, the preference would probably fall on the Austrian star. But for now, the club’s focus is on the upcoming Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.
