Southampton defender Jannick Vestergaard is unsure about a top four finish.

But Denmark international Vestergaard warns: "Top four may be just beyond us. That will not be our goal at all. The club has in recent seasons had to do with the fight against relegation, and we want to be completely free of it, so we can fight for the upper half of the table.

"I think we are facing an exciting season, and I said that before the season. We got zero points after two games, but are now in a really good position. It is justified that we have some ambitions with our team, but it is not top four."

Vestergaard has a contract until the summer of 2022, but right now he is not spending any energy on thinking about it.

"At the moment I do not think about it. For me, there is no reason to look too far into the future. A lot has happened in the last six or eight months, so to start thinking 18-20 months ahead, I'm not really dealing with that.

"We are in good shape and it is fun to go on the field. I think we are really good, and I'm really just looking forward to the rest of the season."
