Englishman James Trafford was often the preferred choice by manager Vincent Kompany last season, but Kosovan Aro Muric is a talented shot stopper in his own right, and will feel he's good enough to take the gloves from Trafford next season.

Kompany has a massive call on his hands, and FLW's Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone has been discussing the decision that the Clarets will be making this summer.

Burnley fan pundit believes Trafford may command higher fee

Regardless which goalkeeper Burnley opt to part ways with this summer, they can expect to receive sizeable fees for either of their two star keepers.

Speaking to FLW about what may be the best route for the Clarets to take, Ben said: "I think with the goalkeeper situation obviously Muric has been linked away, Trafford has been linked away, and one of them does have to go.

"And to be honest, dropping down to the Championship, you might want to keep Trafford. I'm not sure to be honest, I'm sort of happy with whatever decision comes about.

"I think Trafford you're likely to get more money for, there's some big teams being mentioned for him like Newcastle and some others,"

So the 21-year-old Trafford may net Burnley a larger sum of money, but what would it take to sell the 25-year-old Kosovo international Muric?

Ben added, "Whereas Muric, I just think you'd rather keep him for £10m. I think if you're pushing £15m+, I mean he's only 25.

"So for me, I think for the Championship you're looking for the future, maybe Trafford. People are talking about him going on to do big, big things, so the Championship could be a great year for him and give him a good stepping stone to be our number one for the season after, hopefully in the Premier League.

"But again, Muric is only 25, so he's still got another 10 years left in him. So I'm sort of taking a neutral stance on it at the minute, but if I had to choose, I would probably say Muric for number one and sell Trafford, but it's a tough one, it's very tough."

Muric could be better option for next season

Looking at both players, Burnley appear spoiled for choice in terms of both Trafford and Muric would be amongst the best goalkeepers in the Championship next season.

The two former Manchester City keepers jostled for starting opportunities last season, but it was Muric that came out on top in the majority of the important metrics you look for when deciding who will be your number one.

In fact, Muric's 80% save percentage per 90 minutes put him in the top 100 percentile of Premier League goalkeepers last season - per FotMob -, meaning no top-flight goalkeeper scored better than that last season.

Therefore, if and when Kompany and his Burnley coaching staff crunch the data numbers from last season, the findings may well lead them to the answer to their conundrum.
