Tottenham Hotspur technical director Johan Lange believes new signing Lucas Bergvall has ‘great potential’.

Bergvall completed a switch to Tottenham earlier this month and will officially link up with Ange Postecoglou’s squad at the end of the season.

Spurs hijacked Barcelona’s move for the Swedish starlet, with Dejan Kulusevski also playing a role in convincing Bergvall to make the move to north London.

Spurs fans will be forced to wait until next season to see the Djurgarden midfielder in action.

But one of the men responsible for signing the youngster, Johan Lange, has offered an indication of what we can expect from Bergvall.

Lange says Bergvall has ‘great potential’

Speaking to Tottenham’s media team, Lange reflected on what was his first transfer window at Spurs after joining from Aston Villa back in November.

The Spurs chief was asked about the signing of Bergvall and claimed that the midfielder will come straight into the first-team squad next season.

“Lucas is a very mature player despite just turning 18,” Lange said. “He’s a box-to-box midfielder, very good in possession, made to control the game and a great work rate.

“He’s mature as a person and he has a very good family and support network around him. He has great potential, he will join in the summer and be a part of the first-team squad.”

Bergvall racked up a total of 25 appearances for Swedish side Djurgarden last season. He made his debut for Sweden aged just 17 last month, getting 31 minutes under his belt against Estonia.

Skipper Heung-Min Son has already welcomed Bergvall to the club and it seems that Spurs have snapped up a real talent here.

Tottenham have proven to be astute in the transfer market recently and snapping up Bergvall ahead of the likes of Barcelona was a statement of intent.

Of course, we’ve already seen Radu Dragusin turn down a move to Bayern Munich in favour of linking up with Postecoglou.

It’s exciting times for Tottenham supporters and Lange is one of many key figures at the club helping to build one of the most exciting young sides in Europe right now.
