‘Very angry’ Vanoli urges Torino to ‘roll up sleeves’ after Lazio defeat | OneFootball

Torino‘s first half against Lazio left coach Paolo Vanoli ‘very angry’ as it ended up costing his side their first league defeat of the season and the lead of the Serie A table.

The Granata fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Marco Baroni’s outfit, who took the lead through Mattéo Guendouzi in an opening stanza that raised questions about the visitors’ attitude, as Vanoli claimed his side ‘threw away’ the first 45 minutes for the second consecutive time after their Coppa Italia loss against Empoli.

“We have to start over from the second-half in terms of will and determination,” Vanoli said to DAZN, as per Tuttomercatoweb.

“I don’t understand our attitude in the first-half – I’m very angry about this. We were too slow, even in making the right plays.

“It’s happening too many times; we also threw away the opening 45 minutes against Empoli. We’re another team when we’re mentally free, and we proved it in the second-half.

“We needed to move the ball around more than we did and to be patient enough to find our strikers, with the midfielders opening up the space.

“Mistake by mistake, we lost self-esteem. In the second-half, on the other hand, we were a bit unbalanced.

“We need to believe more in what we do,” the Torino coach concluded.

After his late goal at Verona, Ché Adams made an impact again after coming on as a substitute, as he temporarily halved Lazio’s advantage in the second-half.

“I played with three strikers in the second-half because we lacked depth and we moved the ball better with a double playmaker,” the coach added.

“But this doesn’t have to happen anymore, we must believe in our work. Let’s roll up our sleeves and go back to work, stronger than before.”

Torino now sit fourth in Serie A, having picked up 11 points from their first six games, but could still be leapfrogged by Napoli and Empoli by the end of the current matchday.
