Real Madrid defender Lucas Vazquez’s contractual situation is extremely dicey. The 31-year-old ends his ongoing deal in the summer of 2024 and so far, no advancements have been made to ensure his continuity.

For what it is worth, Real Madrid are not really concerned about the situation as he has been assured that he is, in fact, in the club’s plans for next season.

Now, the 31-year-old has not played a lot this season, but Spanish publication AS affirms that Carlo Ancelotti will prioritize giving him more minutes during the business end of the season, with the player in plans for the next season.

So far this term, Vazquez has played just 18 games across all competitions for Real Madrid, scoring two goals and one assist. During these outings, he has clocked a mere 837 minutes meaning that he is averaging just 46.5 minutes per game.

However, all that can change in the upcoming games if Ancelotti does use his services more often. Vazquez has proven to be quite an asset to the team ever since bursting onto the scenes in 2015.

Thanks to his versatility, the 31-year-old has been used across three different positions – right-back, right-wing and left-wing, although in recent times, he has prominently featured as the deputy to Dani Carvajal in the right-back slot.

As reiterated before, Vazquez’s situation is not really putting Madrid into a state of panic. But what is, in fact, doing it is the continuity of several first-team members. This includes the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Nacho and Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid are expected to put their heads into their extensions first before dwelling on the renewals of those who still have a year left on their deals.
