MIAMI – The 2025 Central American Cup kicks off with Verdes FC and Motagua FC in Group C on Tuesday.

The match is the second encounter between the sides in their history after they met in the first matchday of the Group Stage in the inaugural edition in 2023. Motagua claimed a 5-nil win on that occasion.

Verdes FC returns for its second appearance after winning the 2024-25 Belize Premier League Closing Season title and qualified with the best cumulative record across the season.

Motagua is set for a third appearance after booking its place as champions of the Honduran First Division Torneo Apertura 2024 season. The Ciclón Azul recently kicked off its Torneo Apertura 2025 campaign, falling 2-1 against Policia Nacional in its first match of the season.

Head-To-Head series

It will be the 2nd meeting in the Central American Cup, in Group D of Matchday One of the 2023 edition, on August 2, 2023. FC Motagua won 0-5 with goals from Agustín Auzmendi x3, Iván López, and Carlos “zapatilla” Mejía.
