The Football Association confirmed the news yesterday via a tweet on the official Barclays Women’s Super League Twitter account.
Demand to attend this season’s final is expected to be greater than ever before given the attendance records that have been smashed both in the domestic game and for fixtures involving the Lionesses since the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. It is likely that The Football Association will have opted for a larger venue than the one selected for last season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final to ensure that the showpiece attracts the very best crowd possible.
Last season’s final took place at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium. Manchester City went on to lift the trophy after defeating Chelsea 3-1 in front of a record crowd of 8,004. The majority of fans were able to obtain tickets for that match, however, the game did sell out in advance of cup final day.
Fans who choose to attend the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final are likely to watch two of the best clubs in England battle for silverware. Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea are the only clubs to have ever won the trophy while four of the last five finals have been contested by two of those three clubs, Bristol City being the one exception when they appeared in the 2020/2021 final.
The 2022/2023 FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup final venue announcement will be made at 2pm on Wednesday.
