After they brought Richie Sagrado from OH Leuven, Venezia have returned to Belgium to pick up his former teammate Joël Schingtienne. The Italian club have announced that the young defender has signed a contract until the end of the 2028/2029 season. The 21-year-old will bring versatility to the Serie A side, being able to play as a right-back as well as a central defender. At OH Leuven he has mainly operated in the back three.
Schingtienne began his career in the Anderlecht youth set up before transferring to Leuven in 2018. He has then come through the clubs youth system before making his first team debut during the 2023/2024 season. He has gone on to make 43 appearances for the side, scoring once and grabbing one assist.
OH Leuven will likely need to shop around for more defensive reinforcements after losing both Schingtienne and Sagrado in one window, plus the injury to another defender in Ewoud Pletinckx.
