CARTAGO, Costa Rica – The 2025 Concacaf Central American Cup continued with CS Cartaginés earning a 4-nil victory over Club Atlético Independiente in Group C on Tuesday at Estadio José Rafael "Fello" Meza in Cartago, Costa Rica.
Johan Venegas handed the hosts the lead in the 33’, capitalizing on a penalty kick and slotting the ball at the right-bottom corner.
Los Brumosos doubled their lead in the 45+2’ through Marco Ureña. Luis Flores provided a long delivery over the opposition’s back line, before Ureña blasted the ball into the top-right corner.
Venegas secured his brace in the 79’ with a right-footed finish inside the box. The goal took his tally to five in the tournament.
Douglas López rounded out the result for Cartaginés in the 90’+4’ with a fantastic individual play, placing the ball at the top-left corner. Mauro Quiroga provided the assist.
Cartaginés goalkeeper Kevin Briceño delivered a solid performance, closing out the match with two saves as he collected a second clean sheet.
With the victory, Cartaginés secured its berth in the Quarterfinals as second place in Group C with a 2-1-1 record and seven points.
C.A.I. finished fourth in the group with six points and a 2-0-2 record, concluding its participation in the 2025 edition.
