Real Madrid came from behind to beat bottom side Huesca 2-1 to move up to second in the LaLiga table.
Javi Galán had given the hosts the lead before a double from Raphaël Varana earned a crucial win for Los Blancos.
Scorers: Galán 48′; Varane 55′, 84′.
Real looked as if they were still feeling the hangover from last weekend’s defeat to Levante in the first half although Vinícius Júnior had a golden chance to put his side ahead but his chip over Álvaro Fernández flashed wide.
Huesca took a shock lead three minutes after the restart after a clinical counter-attack was finished off by a spectacular left-footed effort from Galán.
That goal appeared to jolt Zinedine Zidane’s side into action and they got themselves level almost immediately.
Karim Benzema’s free-kick crashed against the crossbar and dropped down into a crowd of players where Varane was on hand to head the ball over the line.
The visitors upped the tempo after that and it seemed only a matter of time before they made the breakthrough.
Marcelo fired a piledriver just wide after Benzema has been denied by Fernández after being played in via intricate team move.
Marco Asensio then blasted a shot at goal from eight yards out but the ball stayed out via the temple of the Huesca goalkeeper’s head.
It’s been over a year since Varane last scored but the Frenchman remembered his shooting boots this afternoon as he completed his brace to seal the three points.
Casemiro headed Toni Kroos’ free-kick back across goal where the 27-year-old was there to tap home to close the gap to Atlético de Madrid to seven points.
