The assistant referees at the heart of controversy in Tottenham and Liverpool’s Premier League clash have been stood down from future games.

Luis Díaz’s potential first-half opener during Saturday’s encounter was disallowed for what officiating body PGMOL admitted was ‘significant human error’.

VAR official Darren England and assistant Dan Cook were due to be involved in further matches on Sunday and Monday at Nottingham Forest and Fulham respectively.

But the PGMOL confirmed on Sunday that the pair have been subsequently been replaced as the fallout from the incident continues.

“Darren England and Dan Cook have been replaced for the Nottingham Forest v Brentford and Fulham v Chelsea matches,” confirmed a PGMOL statement.

“Craig Pawson will now assume England’s duties as 4th official at City Ground while Eddie Smart will take over from Cook as assistant ref at Craven Cottage.”

PGMOL have previously pledged to “acknowledge the error” to Liverpool in the aftermath of their 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
