Torino coach Paolo Vanoli downplays a touchline incident that led to a red card for him and Thiago Motta and feels his players ‘lacked the courage’ to beat Juventus.

Torino collected a 1-1 draw against city rivals Torino on Saturday, but the result left regrets to Granata coach Vanoli.

“We could have made history with a bit of luck today, but I am happy with my people,” he told DAZN via Toronews.

“We were too shy initially, but we often recovered the ball when we started pressing collectively. I was more upset when we had the ball. We were positioned well, and we didn’t stress their defence enough. We lacked the courage to win the game in the second half, and we should always have it.”

Both Motta and Vanoli were sent off in the second half following a touchline confrontation.

“This is what makes football nice. There is tension, and you can feel it on the pitch. I must improve on this,” argued Vanoli.

Nikola Vlasic scored the equaliser for Torino and celebrated by hugging his coach.

“I’m so happy, he is a very important player. He has quality, but he’s too harsh on himself.”
