AZ Alkmaar claimed an emphatic 4-1 victory over Almere City on Saturday, to keep the club third in the Eredivisie table. Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis netted twice, to take his tally up to 18 goals so far this season. The 25-year-old is now level on goals with Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez, as the pair battle it out for the golden boot.

Pavlidis opened the scoring in the seventh minute of the match. A beautiful left-footed strike from just inside the area saw the ball slide into the bottom left corner of the goal. Nottingham Forest loanee Loïc Mbe Soh levelled the match for the visitors just before the hour mark, getting his head onto the end of a corner kick.

It took AZ less than ten minutes to restore the lead. Dani de Wit slotted the ball into the back of the net. Summer signing David Moller Wolfe made it 3-1, converting from close range. In added time, Vangelis Pavlidis claimed his brace with a super strike. The Greece international lobbed Nordin Bakker in the Almere goal to put the cherry on top of the cake for AZ Alkmaar. A fantastic performance from Pascal Jansen’s side. The three points moved them just two points off Feyenoord, who sit in second place.
