Former Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel admits he would like nothing more than to play for the club again – and would even do it for free.

Van der Wiel made over 130 appearances for Ajax before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

The 32-year-old is currently without a club since leaving Toronto FC in 2019, and he is back living in Amsterdam.

“I still have the itch to play football,” he told the club’s official website.

“I don’t do anything at the moment and I live in Amsterdam.

“I would love nothing more than to play at Ajax again, I would even do it for free.”

Ajax are likely to lose promising right back Sergiño Dest this summer, with Bayern Munich and PSG both interested.
