Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has taken aim at Chelsea striker Timo Werner after last night's two-goal performance.

Werner struck twice and produced an assist in Chelsea's 3-3 draw at Champions League opponents Zenit St Petersburg.

But Van der Vaart said on Ziggo Sport: "He is a player who actually annoys you all the time.

"Compare him a bit with Luis Suarez, who also walked with his head down on the ball. I can make that comparison, because I played football at a high level.

"But it's all so wild and blind, no overview at all. I just expect more from a player who has been obtained for so much money.

"He is a very special footballer, but he does score his goals. That is what some say, but I can be surprised about it. He is lucky that he is very fast, otherwise he would have just been a mediocre footballer."
