Van der Sar sends important message to Van de Beek about getting into United team | OneFootball

Edwin van der Sar is confident that things will get better for Donny van de Beek after revealing that he has been speaking to people at Manchester United about their summer signing.

The Netherlands international has only started two Premier League games for Manchester United since arriving at Old Trafford in a £35.10m (via Transfermarkt) move from Ajax during the summer.

Van de Beek faces a bit of a situation at United, though. He hasn’t played the amount of games he would’ve hoped for after leaving his boyhood club.

However, former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who helped conduct the deal as Ajax CEO, has revealed that the midfielder is expected to rise to the levels expected of him.

The ex-keeper stressed how earning a spot in Solskjaer’s midfield is a difficult thing to do with the quality at his disposal, while adding there should be no shame on Van de Beek’s side because he has been doing well in training.

“I do talk to a lot of people at the club [Manchester United],” Van der Sar said on Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport’s Rondo talkshow, as cited by the Express.

“Fantastic attitude, he does well in training.

“It [sealing a spot in the Manchester United midfield] is difficult.

“[Paul] Pogba is coming back, [Bruno] Fernandes is very importamt, [Nemanja] Matic and [Scott] McTominay, are also there.

“It’s no shame at all, it’s also a big club, isn’t it?

“Of course, it’s a large amount [Van de Beek’s transfer fee], but they are confident that he will get there.”

I would expect Van de Beek to get a run in the team this week — either against Fulham or Liverpool in the FA Cup. Every appearance is a test.
