Federico Valverde scored a remarkable individual goal as Real Madrid came from behind to beat Mallorca and move back to the top of LaLiga.
Scorers: Valverde 45+3′, Vinícius 72′, Rodrygo 89′, Rüdiger 90+3′; Muriqi 36′
The visitors nearly stormed into the lead within the first 30 seconds when Vedat Muriqi lofted the ball over David Alaba and smashed a half-volley goal which required Thibaut Courtois to make a smart save.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side shook off that early warning to take control of the match with Dani Ceballos testing Predrag Rajković from long range before Toni Kroos saw his effort from just outside of the box fly just wide of the far post.
But Mallorca remained in the game and found a way to move ahead in the 36th minute with Muriqi popping up unmarked at the back post to head home Lee Kang-in’s free-kick.
It looked as if Real were going to go into half-time behind until Valverde produced a stunning moment to pull the hosts level.
Picking up the ball in his own half the Uruguayan midfielder ran through the Mallorca midfield before coming inside on to his left foot and arrowing an attempt into the top corner.
Mallorca kept their opponents at bay for the majority of the second half in search of a draw with Lucas Vázquez curling wide from 25 yards out as Real went in search of the winner.
Eventually the goal came and again it was as a result of a moment of individual quality.
Rodrygo took three Mallorca defenders out of the game with a mazy run before laying the ball into the path of Vinícius Junior who chipped over Rajković into the back of the net.
Rodrygo made it three in the dying minutes, again dancing past multiple Mallorca defenders before slotting into the bottom corner.
Antonio Rüdiger bagged his first goal of the club in stoppage time to make it four, volleying in Kroos’ free-kick into the bottom corner.
Real jump back above Barcelona and into top spot after maintaining their perfect record while Mallorca remain in 13th.
