Marseille midfielder Valentin Rongier has spoken about the importance of his teammate, Alexis Sánchez, describing him as a “leader” and a “great professional”.
“Alexis? He’s a leader,” Rongier told Téléfoot. “He doesn’t like to lose, and we’re very happy to have him with us. He doesn’t like to be tackled or criticized. He’s a bit of a complainer, but he’s a great professional.”
Sánchez joined Marseille on loan from Inter Milan in the summer, and has made an immediate impact for the French side, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 10 Ligue 1 appearances.
The Chilean forward has been an important figure for Marseille both on and off the pitch, bringing his experience and winning mentality to a team looking to secure second place in Ligue 1.
Rongier also spoke about the team’s upcoming match against Lens, saying that Marseille deserved to win the first meeting between the sides and would be looking to repeat that performance at Bollaert-Delelis Stadium.
“The first game at the Vélodrome against Lens, in my opinion, we deserved to win,” Rongier said. “And if we can do the same thing to them at Bollaert, we certainly won’t hesitate to do so.”
