An as-of-yet-unnamed Valenciennes FC player has been accused of breaking the jaw of a supporter during a physical altercation. An incident was confirmed to have happened after a reserves match between VAFC and Lille OSC on Sunday which ended 3-3.
According to MaLigue 2, the player who is a professional in the main team, but is lacking playing time under manager Ahmed Kantari, was the target of abusive comments from a VAFC supporters group (Ultras Roisters) present at the game.
The player was then said to have hit one of the ultras in the face, who has allegedly suffered a triple fracture and has undergone emergency surgery.
VAFC contacted MaLigue 2, to state “We know that something happened but we don’t know exactly what happened. We are waiting for the protagonists’ version of the story. The player will be received tomorrow (Tuesday) by management to explain himself. Once we have all the facts, a decision will be made.”
This incident only adds to the feeling of chaos that has surrounded VAFC this season as the club sit bottom of Ligue 2, and look set to face relegation, as a 14-point gap between them and safety has emerged with only 13 games left to play.
