Valencia to wear black on return to football as region estimates cost of DANA tragedy | OneFootball

The Community of Valencia are still starting out on the long road to recovery after the DANA tragedy took lives, livelihoods and much more at the end of October. People are hoping to return to ‘normality’ as soon as possible though, and Los Che will return to action after the international break against Real Betis.

Valencia have had their last two games facing Real Madrid and Espanyol suspended as a result of the flooding across the region, but will play Real Betis next weekend at Mestalla. During the clash, Valencia will be wearing all black, and will wear messages of support for the victims of the flooding before the match, amongst a number of tributes. All of the revenue from the match will also be donated in aid, report Marca.

Beyond Valencia themselves, the region’s grassroots football has been heavily affected by the cold drop storm, and there is uncertainty around the future of many clubs. Relevo say that the Valencian Football Federation are estimating the cost of the disaster at around €20m. Around 39 sporting facilities have been seriously affected, and in some cases completely destroyed, leaving 20,000 players in the region out of 130,000 without anywhere to play. They will ask for help from La Liga and the RFEF’s Crisis Committee for €10m of the bill, and the central government emergency fund for the other half.
