Valencia star confirms he has his sights on Alisson’s no.1 spot at Liverpool | OneFootball

Valencia star Giorgi Mamardashvili has on Wednesday confirmed his intention to lock horns with Alisson for starting duties at Liverpool.

Shot-stopper Mamardashvili, of course, committed to terms with Liverpool during the summer.

Amid links with a whole host of leading clubs from across the continent, the Georgian opted to take his talents to Anfield, on a long-term contract.

Mamardashvili has since remained with Valencia for the duration of the current campaign, ahead of linking up with his new teammates on Merseyside in the summer of 2025.

At this point, though, the 24-year-old will be faced with one of the standout goalkeepers in all of world football, in the form of Alisson, as competition.

Mamardashvili does not appear at all daunted by such a prospect, however.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, in quotes gathered by Fabrizio Romano, the Valencia standout explained:

“I was attracted by Liverpool’s project when the club’s representatives met me to sign me. I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position even if the current goalkeeper does not leave the team.”
