Valencia coach Rino Gattuso admits he'd like to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.

He said, “Of course I like him, but we can't afford him, and then it's useless to dwell on it or make promises that can't be kept.

"We have to work, then work, and then keep working to find our identity. We have financial problems, but I would like to do well. This is a very competitive tournament, top level football.

“We lost (Goncalo) Guedes and we hope to replace him, but here there is precise control in economic terms, Barça cannot register their transfers. We took (Samu) Castillejo, Lino and Nico (Gonzalez) from Barça.

"We lost Guedes and we hope to replace him, but here there is precise control in economic terms: Barça starts the Liga tomorrow and they still have to register several players, there is no use buying someone you can't afford."

Gattuso has enjoyed preseason in Spain and also said: “Are people surprised by my ideas? At last. It took me a while to get people to think again, and I'm happy with the result.

"I have always looked for a football with meaning, and above all that transmits something. That's why last year I stayed: I had nothing to give and when that's the case I always start 2-0 down. I did not feel anything.

"Coming here, with all the difficulties that it entails, to face such a competitive League has rekindled my inner fire."
