Valencia coach Jose Bordalas admits he was taken aback by the fans' protest during Saturday's victory over Celta Vigo.

Thousands of Valencia fans angry with club owner Peter Lim protested outside its stadium on Saturday when their team played its final game of the season.

Fans waved signs saying “Lim Go Home" and shouted for the Singapore businessman to sell the club. It appeared there were more fans flooding the streets outside Mestalla Stadium than inside watching Valencia beat Celta Vigo 2-0 in the Spanish league.

Bordalas said afterwards: "No. I have never experienced this before, it is not what we are used to. Mestalla always has a very good attendance. The few fans who were here encouraged the team. We send thanks to the fans for their behaviour with the team all season. LaLiga ends today, the holidays begin, the boys leave and those who have a commitment. We do not have an exact date, we will notify the staff shortly.

"I respect any decision and the fans. I'm not going to assess if it's good or bad. The fans are great and I only have words of praise. I respect whatever decision they make."

He added: "We have commented little or nothing about it, because it was time to stay focused on the game. I have insisted during the week that it was very important to finish with a victory. The team, despite the fact that there was almost nothing at stake, were the better side. Without it being a brilliant game, the team performed well and have taken another three points. After the game we said goodbye, and with those who are leaving we thanked them for their commitment and wished them the best."
