Two to go. The Women’s Champions League is back on Thursday.
Lose in Paris and Real Madrid are out. It’s as simple as that.
They travel to PSG on Friday for a mammoth match. Having picked up just one point from two games against Chelsea, after failing to beat PSG in Madrid, it really is all on the line this week.
Even a draw may not be enough, leaving Madrid two points behind before PSG face already-qualified Chelsea next week.
The pressure is on.
Having lost 5-1 to Arsenal to kick off the group stage, Lyon face a date with history at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday. No team has ever won back-to-back Champions League matches against the queens of the competition.
An injury crisis has slowly improved for Lyon but they are still far from full strength and defeat would likely see Juventus leapfrog them into second before the teams face off in France in a week’s time.
Lose and Juve have the upper hand. Surely the holders have to respond to slipping up against Arsenal (5-1) and Juve (1-1) at the start of the group stage?
There are two matchdays left but a host of sides can seal their quarter-final spots with room to spare this week.
Arsenal have already secured their spot and will be joined by Lyon if they win and Juventus do not against FC Zürich.
Chelsea will be through as long as they avoid defeat to Vllaznia or if PSG beat Real Madrid. A PSG win would also see them qualify.
Roma will secure their spot as long as they avoid defeat against St Pölten.
Arsenal have already secured their spot and will be joined by Lyon if they win and Juventus do not against FC Zürich.
And Bayern Munich will be through if they avoid defeat against Rosengård or if Benfica fail to beat Barcelona. A point for Barcelona would see them through as well.
