Manchester City were set to clinch victory away to Real Madrid but were thwarted by a stoppage-time equaliser.

Esther Gonzalez blazed a penalty over Karima Benameur Taieb’s crossbar, before Caroline Weir broke the deadlock early in the second half.

The post denied Esther an equaliser and Jill Scott then had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for a foul.

Kenti Robles denied City the win by firing home in the dying seconds, giving Madrid a draw to take into second leg at the Academy Stadium on Wednesday 8 September.
