Lyon overcome spirited PSG at the Parc des Princes (agg. 3-5)

Scorers: Katoto 62′; Hegerberg 14′, Renard 83′

Lyon, with a goal advantage coming into the game, wasted no time in extending their lead as the Champions League’s all-time top goalscorer, Ada Hegerberg, put them ahead in the 14th-minute.

Rising highest Hegerberg placed a delightful header looping back across the goal, leaving Barbora Votíková little chance to pull off a save.

France’s current top team were dominant throughout the first period and should’ve doubled their lead through Delphine Cascarino.

With an option to her side, the French forward opted to try and round the Czech goalkeeper butVotíková read it expertly and seized the ball at Cascarino’s feet.

PSG looked more threatening in the second half and drew the game level at the hour mark. After a goalmouth scramble, Marie-Antoinette Katoto poked home leading to a very finish for Lyon.

The game, and the tie, was put to bed in the 83rd-minute as captain Wendie Renard rose highest from a free-kick with an emphatic header as Lyon join Barcelona in the Champions League final.

Earlier today…

Barcelona through to final despite defeat in Wolfburg (agg. 3-5)

Scorers: Waßmuth 48′, Roord 60′

Barcelona started well, controlling the tempo of the encounter and were within a toe of taking the lead. Ghosting in at the back post, Patricia Guijarro’s effort was flicked over the bar by Almuth Schult’s out-stretched foot.

Pressure continued to mount in the first period and Barcelona really should’ve taken the lead as Ana-Maria Crnogorčević benefited from a defensive lapse but her shot from within the area was blasted well over the bar.

The second period had a different story as Wolfsburg rushed into a two-goal lead. Tabea Waßmuth with their first, a half volley lashed in from the edge of the area before Jill Roord doubled their lead from a similar position, wrong-footing Sandra Paños.

Spurred on by the vocal support, the home side pushed for another goal. Their best chance came late in the game as Ewa Pajor cut in from the right-wing and forced a good save at the near post.

Frantic defending from the subsequent corners ensued as Waßmuth and Svenja Huth went within a whisker of finding the back of the net.

In the end, Wolfsburg couldn’t find the extra goals needed but won the enthralling encounter as Barça progress to the Champion League final.
