Barcelona come from behind to win in Madrid

Scorers: Carmona 8′; Alexia 53′, 90+4′, Pina 81′

Tuesday’s late kick-off was a big one, as Champions League debutants Real Madrid were narrowly beaten by holders Barcelona at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

The hosts made a dream start when Olga Carmona slotted into the bottom corner after some great work from Esther Gonzalez.

Esther then went close to making it 2-0 in the 37th minute when she found herself in behind the Barça backline, but her shot hit the outside of the post.

Into the second half and Barça were awarded a penalty when Madrid goalscorer Olga Carmona was adjudged to have fouled Caroline Graham Hansen in the box. Alexia Putellas stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to equalise.

Barça began to take control after the equaliser and in the 81st minute they went ahead, when substitute Claudia Pina fired low past Misa in the Real Madrid goal for 2-1.

And as Madrid pushed for a late equaliser, they were caught on the break, with Putellas dinking over the goalkeeper for her second of the night for 3-1.

Katoto at the double as PSG win at Bayern

Scorers: Bühl 84′; Katoto 20′, 71′

Paris Saint-Germain will take a slender lead into next week’s second leg after a close encounter in Munich.

Bayern made a bright start at the Allianz Arena but it was PSG who drew first blood in the tie, when Marie-Antoinette Katoto netted from close range after Kadidiatou Diani’s initial effort had come back off the crossbar.

The hosts went close to an equaliser in the 66th minute when the ball dropped to Sydney Lohmann in the box, but her scuffed effort clipped the outside of the post and went out for a goal-kick.

And they were soon made to rue that miss when Katoto headed home from a corner for her second goal of the night.

But Bayern did pull a goal back six minutes from time, when a well-hit free-kick from Klara Bühl was too hot to handle for PSG goalkeeper Barbora Votíková as it flew into the net.

The second legs take place on Wednesday 30 March.
