Barcelona v Arsenal

Scorers: Caldentey 32′, Putellas 42′, Oshoala 47′; Mannum 73′

Barcelona were at their imperious best this evening as they battered Arsenal from minute one to win 4-1 in their Champions League opener.

Barcelona were playing like the defending champions in the opening exchanges and went close to scoring two separate occasions inside the opening five minutes.

It was absolutely relentless from the Catalan club with Arsenal unable to get out of their half.

And their pressure paid eventually on 32 minutes as Mariona Caldentey reacted first to the loose ball and swept home from just six yards out.

Barça were totally in the mood now and got their second just before half time as Alexia Putellas tapped in from close range.

Into the second half and the hosts grabbed a third as Asisat Oshoala raced in on goal and finished with calmness personified.

The Gunners finally found their way back into the game late on as Frida Mannum ghosted in at the far post and bundled home.

But Barcelona soon restored their three-goal lead as Lieke Martens went through one-on-one and chipped into the back of the net.

Benfica v Bayern

Scorers:

Benfica and Bayern Munich played out a tense Group D opener as neither side was able to break the deadlock.

It was a tense opening to the first half with both sides struggling to string together any meaningful passages of play and failing to register any shots on goal.

The German side stepped up their efforts for an opening goal in the second half but just couldn’t find a way past their Portuguese opponents.

Hoffenheim v HB Køge

Scorers: Naschenweng 18′, Billa 47′, Bühler 61′, Caigny 63′, 90+3

Hoffenheim got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start as they beat Danish side HB Køge 5-0.

The German side got off to a perfect start at Katherina Naschenweng finished with aplomb after only 18 minutes.

Into the second half and the home team doubled their advantage almost immediately as Nicole Billa netted.

Hoffenheim then hit two quickfire goals to go four goals in front – first Luana Bühler found the net and then Tine de Caigny hit home immediately after.

And De Caigny put the cap on an excellent performance with a goal in stoppage time.

Häcken v Lyon

Scorers: Malard 10′, Macario 48′, Larsen (OG) 53′

Lyon were back to their best in European competition on Tuesday evening as they beat Swedish outfit BK Häcken 3-0.

The French side flew out of the blocks here and grabbed the lead after only 10 minutes as Melvine Malard swept home.

And then on 48 minutes they doubled their lead as Catarina Macario showed her class in front of goal.

A Stine Larsen own goal put some more gloss on the scoreline for Lyon, who were almost totally dominant at this point.
