Erik Alonso has been speaking about his failed Derby County takeover attempt as he insisted he did have the funds to complete a deal.
It was revealed earlier in the year that the Spanish businessman was in talks to buy the Rams from Mel Morris and at one stage an agreement had been reached and it appeared Alonso would become the new owner.
However, plenty of issues started to arise, notably about whether the 29-year-old had the resources to complete the deal and who was involved in the group that were also putting in funds.
Eventually, as was the case with Sheikh Khaled, Derby would call a halt to negotiations, with owner Mel Morris still seeking fresh investment into the club.
And, Alonso explained his version of events to The Athletic reporter Ryan Conway today, as he gave an insight into why the deal couldn’t be finalised and the players he was keen on signing.
But, it’s fair to say many Derby fans weren’t keen on what Alonso had to say. Here we look at some of the reaction from Twitter…
