Keen to sanction the arrival of a long-term Luke Shaw successor, Manchester United have three names on their shortlist, all of whom boast a plethora of European experience.
The Old Trafford faithful will be well aware that the club have been linked with Alphonso Davies countless times in recent months, primarily due to his contract expiring with Bayern Munich next summer.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be in the mix and have been keeping tabs on his situation from Spain, with the latter’s interest stemming from Davies’ ex-Bayern boss, Hansi Flick.
Yet, the trio of Euro giants are braced for disappointment due to the 24-year-old’s ongoing negotiations with his club regarding an extension. Tying Davies down to a fresh deal at the Allianz is one of their priorities, and, as of December 5, they’d made ‘significant progress’ in talks to seal an agreement.

That means United will be forced to pursue other alternatives, though that’s not to say there aren’t still high-quality options available.
Florian Plettenberg claims AC Milan’s vice-captain Theo Hernandez and Paris Saint-Germain star Nuno Mendes are of interest to the Reds. The 22-year-old, formerly of Sporting Lisbon, made 47 appearances under Ruben Amorim during their time together at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, so when his former coach was appointed in the dugout for England’s most successful club, Mendes was quick to wish him well.
“I think I just have to congratulate him,” Mendes told reporters. “I think he is a coach who has done everything for football and is having great success in football. But I think he has the potential to do much more than what he has already done.
“I just want to wish him the best of luck, both to him and to the [Portuguese] players and coaches abroad. I think it is very important [that Amorim succeeds at Man United], and that is all I have to say.”
The Portugal fullback is contracted to PSG until 2026 as it stands – hence the board wanting to tie him down to new terms after learning of his outside admirers. United could ‘throw a spanner in the works’ of their plans, according to Plettenberg and Get Football News France.
