The US women’s national team is set to kick off the September FIFA window with two friendlies against Nigeria.

The first will be held on September 3, at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City before the USWNT heads for the nation’s capital on September 6 at Audi Field.

The American side will play their sixth overall match in Kansas City, and first-ever appearance at Audi Field after playing all previous Washington-based games at RFK.

The two friendlies serve as the first domestic matches for the USWNT since qualifying for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“First, I’m just excited to play two matches against Nigeria. They have some very talented players who will present a lot of different problems for us to solve on both sides of the ball,” said Andonovski.

“Secondly, of course we’re looking forward to bringing the team back to one of the best soccer cities and best soccer stadiums in the United States in Kansas City, as well as getting to play our first game at Audi Field, which I’ve visited several times for NWSL games and is also a fantastic venue for our team to play in front of our home fans.”

The USWNT holds an overall record of 6W-0L-0D against 39th ranked Nigeria. The two teams last faced each other in June 2021 in Austin, Texas, where the American side managed a 2-0 victory.

But Nigeria will go into the friendlies stronger, after recently reaching the quarter-finals of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The USWNT, on the other hand, will be coming off the Concacaf W Championship, where they topped Group A standings to qualify for their ninth straight Women’s World Cup.

The American side is currently still competing in the competition, with a ticket to the 2024 Olympics at stake.
