USL Championship Gameweek 6 Preview – East

Article image:USL Championship Gameweek 6 Preview – East

With only three pure fixtures between Eastern Conference squads this weekend, we’ll include a cross-conference game that is hosted by an eastern team, plus another one.

Hartford Athletic vs. Indy Eleven

Saturday, April 12th @ 2:00pm ET – Trinity Health Stadium, Hartford, Connecticut.Streaming on ESPN+.Poor Hartford has been dreadful this campaign. Coming into USL gameweek 6 they have more red cards than goals (3 to 1). I do not see this game as the catalyst for a remarkable turnaround, though that single goal came during their only home match. Indy Eleven should have the moxie to win this match handily, but better be careful. They do not want to be the team that gives Hartford their first win.

Charleston Battery vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Saturday, April 12th @ 7:30pm ET – Patriots Point, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.Local broadcast only. This fixture is a middle of the pack Eastern scrum, as the teams sit seventh and sixth in the table respectfully. They also share the same colors (yellow and black) and a +1 goal differential. All this points to a match that should be taught and exciting. Shame it’s not being streamed.

Tampa Bay Rowdies vs. Loudoun United FC

Saturday, April 12th @ 7:30pm ET – Al Lang Stadium, St. Petersburg, Florida.Streaming on ESPN+.After four straight away games (plus a bye week), Tampa Bay finally get to have their home opener in USL gameweek 6. What a bummer it’s against the USL’s hottest team at the moment. While not conceding much, the Rowdies have a problem scoring goals. Loudoun are better than decent at defending and scoring, which should give them the edge.

San Antonio FC vs. Miami FC

Saturday, April 12th @ 8:30pm ET – Toyota Field, San Antonio, Texas.Streaming on ESPN+.

This is the Mismatch of the Week. Despite last week’s shock defeat to Phoenix, San Antonio are one of the strongest sides in the USL. Miami, on the other hand, aren’t worst only because of Hartford. If Miami was hosting I might be persuaded to give them a 5% chance at a draw; with them on the road this is going to be a SAFC slaughter.

Birmingham Legion FC vs. El Paso Locomotive FC

Sunday, April 13th @ 5:00pm ET – Protective Stadium, Birmingham, Alabama.Streaming on ESPN+.It hasn’t been a great 2025 for Birmingham. Still winless after four games, they were also eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup in the 1st Round by USL2’s Little Rock Rangers. Ouch. Meanwhile, El Paso is scrambling to find some consistency. They’re play is exciting and vibrant, but also porous and sloppy. They’ve only had one loss, but they also gave up a four-goal lead with only 35 minutes left to play back in Gameweek 2. They’ve conceded more goals than any Eastern Conference team, but also scored more. So for the fan, this should be a thrilling match-up.
