BOGOTA, Colombia — The United States won 2-1 against the Netherlands in the third-place match of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup on Saturday at Estadio Nemesio Camacho 'El Campin' in Bogota, Colombia.
Their U.S. struck the match's first goal in the 10’, with captain Ally Sentnor shooting from long range to give her team the lead.
Robin Lacroix evened things out for the Netherlands in the 26’ with a collective play that ended with her receiving the ball in the area to shoot past American goalkeeper Teagan Wy.
A free kick in the 45’ gave Riley Jackson a chance to put the ball in the area, but the Netherlands’ defensive line made the stop to keep the score level.
Pietra Tordin tried to restore the advantage for the U.S. in the 52’ with a direct shot in the box but was denied by Netherlands goalkeeper Femke Liefting.
Neither side was able to score a second goal before the end of regulation, which sent the match to an additional thirty minutes of play.
Maddie Dahlien was key in creating the chance that led to a Nayomi Buikema own goal in the 119’, giving the United States the third-place medal at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup near the end of the extra time.
