Ochoa will be out of contract on December 31, after his two-year deal with Club America expires. Though the Liga MX club remain interested in renewing Ochoa, Sky Sports’ Gianluca Di Marzio reported it's a “done deal” between the Mexican goalkeeper and Salernitana.

“The negotiation between Salernitana and Guillermo Ochoa closed in just over 36 hours. the parties had been working on it since Monday morning and the closure arrived on Tuesday afternoon.”

Guillermo Ochoa is no stranger to European football, seeing stints with Ajaccio, Malaga, Granada and Standard Liege between 2011 and 2019. He stood as Standard Liege’s first choice keeper throughout the 2018/2019 campaign, recording 48 appearances across the Belgian Super League and Europa League, before earning the club's Player of the Season award.

Despite involvement, the Belgium club did not renew his two-year deal, inspiring his return to Club America for a second spell.

Ochoa has seen recent success under head coach Fernando Ortiz, inspiring the team to first place on the Liga MX table during the 2022 Apertura while managing several record-breaking victories. His recent run and relationship with Ortiz prompted many to believe the goalkeeper and captain would sign a contract extension, but that may not be the case.

”Memo finished his contract, from then on, which corresponds to me as a coach. He knows what I think and it no longer depends on me. That is the reality, the important thing is that he and I are connected and we had discussed it before the World Cup And this is so, the situation he faces today is the possibility of renewing with the club he wants to be with,” said Fernando Ortiz of the situation.

The transfer window opens on January 1, while the 2023 Liga MX Clausura kicks off on January 6.
