The 17-year-old midfielder Giovanni Reyna has been made a full member of Borussia Dortmund’s first team although starts for the Under-19 are still likely.

Even though the news may come with little surprise, it is still reassuring to hear that Gio Reyna is on track to become a Bundesliga player. Being promoted to a full member of the first team is an important step in any player’s career.

The son of U.S. international and former Bundesliga player Claudio Reyna has made a good impression during BVB’s winter training camp in Marbella Spain. During the 4-2 friendly win over FC Feyenoord on Saturday, he was on the scoresheet and set up under-23 midfielder Chris Führich with an assist.

According to @BVBJugend, it is not ruled out that Reyna continues to feature for the under-19. Though it is safe to assume that the 17-year-old will make his professional debut in 2020, which may be expedited due to a struggling Jacob Bruun Larsen. The Danish winger has contributed little to Dortmund’s success during first-team appearances in the Hinrunde and BVB coach Lucien Favre might look at Reyna’s ability to dribble with a keen eye when weighing his squad selections.
