In a recent segment on the Daily Briefing (subscription required), renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of Sevilla defender Loic Remy. Romano said,
“Loic Bade could leave in the summer, it’s a possibility with a good proposal. Tottenham never opened talks for him in January, as far as I know; also they signed Radu Dragusin and they trust him for the future, so there’s no movement so far, that’s my understanding.”
Bade has enjoyed a solid campaign at the Andalusian club after producing a series of dominant performances at the heart of their backline. The 23-year-old has participated in 23 matches for Sevilla this season, picking up one assist in all competitions.
The French defender has been a rock at the back based on his average of 2.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 4.4 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from inside his half after completing 81.6% of his attempted passes in the Spanish top tier (stats via whoscored).

Bade is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and can use his robust 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. The French sensation excels at playing his away out from the back as well. However, it remains to be seen whether he can cope with the high intensity of English football.
At the moment, Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu can boast a quality defensive department as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin have all managed to impress for the North London club of late.
Hence, Spurs have no immediate need to strengthen their defence this summer. Someone of Bade’s quality would no doubt improve Tottenham‘s squad but Postecoglu might be better off investing on strengthening some of the other areas of his match-day squad in the summer.
