In a recent report, The Telegraph offered an update on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks. It has been stated that the North London club could finally part ways with the English midfield ace during this summer transfer window.

Winks’ Impressive Loan Spell In Italy

Winks has enjoyed a decent loan spell in Sampdoria this season as he has done well to produce a few impressive performances at the centre of the park. The 27-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Italian club during this campaign across multiple competitions.

The English talent has found some form while on loan at Sampdoria based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.0 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even distributed the ball relatively well, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 85.4% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at his parent club Tottenham will expire at the end of next season. Hence, Spurs will have no choice but to cash in on Winks or else risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

What Should Tottenham Hotspur Do With Regards To Winks?

Winks can read the danger well and doesn’t mind getting stuck in with some crunching tackles to make life difficult for the opposition in the middle of the park. He can make a few timely interceptions for his team when he is playing with confidence on the pitch.

The English sensation usually clears the danger when needed and has often been guilty of being inconsistent during his time at Tottenham.

At the moment, Winks is simply not good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season. Therefore, it makes sense for the player to seek a move elsewhere in search of greener pastures this summer.

With all things considered, Spurs should think about cashing in on Winks and using the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad.

At 27, Winks has still got plenty of time to turn his fortunes around for the better in English football but needs to ensure more playing opportunities in order to do so in the future.
