In a recent interview with Sky Sports Austria, Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund offered an update on the future of Noah Okafor amid recent interest from Manchester City. Freund refused to rule out a move for the Swiss centre-forward and said,

“I think there will be a bit more going on in the transfer market than in recent years. Okafor really took off last year. I hope he plays a good World Cup. Then the Noah Okafor stock can become very interesting. I’m not ruling it out.”

Okafor’s Rich Vein Of Form At The Red Bull Arena

Okafor is having a fine season in Austrian football as he has managed to produce a handful of goal-scoring displays while spearheading Salzburg’s attack. The 22-year-old has banged in 11 goals and picked up a couple of assists in 27 matches for both his club and country during this campaign across all competitions.

The Switzerland international has caught the eye with his performances in Europe based on his average of 1.8 shots, 1.0 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in the UEFA Champions League. However, he needs to work on improving his link-up play after making only 72.1% of his attempted passes in European football (stats via whoscored).

RB Salzburg Refuse To Rule Out A Move For Okafor: Big Boost For Manchester City?

Okafor is proficient at generating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He is a decent finisher in the final third and can also create some inviting opportunities for his teammates to find the back of the net.

Okafor is primarily a centre-forward but can also function as a winger on either flank if his manager tells him to do so. The Swiss sensation can also make a few decent runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline.

Someone with Okafor’s skillset would be a decent signing for Manchester City as he is good enough to serve as a suitable backup to Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium.

We can expect Okafor to inject more firepower into Pep Guardiola‘s frontline and help the Mancunian giants challenge for even more top honours in the coming seasons.

At 22, Okafor has got the potential to become a world-class player in his position someday. Hence, Salzburg’s refusal to rule out a move for him will be a massive boost for Man City and their plans to recruit him next year.
