Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers is not believed to have suffered a serious injury after limping off with an ankle problem during Wednesday’s 4-0 pre-season victory over AS Roma, according to The Athletic's Jacob Tanswell.
Rogers was introduced at half-time but lasted just four minutes before being substituted following an awkward fall. The 23-year-old required on-pitch treatment as Villa's medical staff assessed his left ankle, with academy prospect Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba brought on in his place.
While Rogers is expected to rest and undergo further tests in the coming days, initial assessments suggest the damage is not severe. There is optimism he could be fit in time for Villa’s Premier League opener at home to Newcastle United on August 16.
Villa will complete their pre-season schedule this weekend with back-to-back friendlies against Marseille and Villarreal before kicking off their league campaign the following Friday.
