In a recent Youtube video, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Liverpool and their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. Romano said,
“So this deal could be done this summer to avoid the free transfer in 2026. If he’s not going to get done this summer, it’s going to be next summer on a free, for sure. Guehi will go to Liverpool.
“But Liverpool and Crystal Palace have a very good relationship, so they are trying to reach an agreement for this summer transfer window.”
Guehi had a solid campaign at Crystal Palace recently as he produced a run of impressive performances for them on the defensive end of the field. The 25-year-old played in 44 matches for the Eagles last season, netting three goals and securing two assists in all competitions.
The English talent was a reliable presence at the centre of Oliver Glasner’s backline after he made 61 tackles, 55 blocks and 28 interceptions in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 83.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via fbref.com).

Guehi is a tough-tackling defender who can read the danger well to make some important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears his lines when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The English defensive ace has already proven himself in the Premier League and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Merseyside club. With less than a year left to run in his Crystal Palace contract, Liverpool would do well to sign him on a cut-price deal this summer.
Guehi would add more quality and depth to Arne Slot’s defence. He is more than capable of competing for regular first-team football at Anfield this season. The English talent could help the Reds challenge for a lot of major trophies over the next few years.
At 25, Guehi has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a dream signing for Liverpool to pull off in this summer transfer period.
