West Ham United have yet to make a formal approach to Watford for forward Emmanuel Dennis, according to a report from the Watford Observer.

It is understood that whilst the Irons are still interested in the possibility of sealing a deal for the Nigerian, they are currently assessing all of their options before committing to an offer.

Dennis’ representatives have already held talks with West Ham and other clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Also believed to be attracting interest from Villarreal, the forward is currently valued at around the £20m mark by Watford.

Whereas Dennis was unable to prevent his side from suffering relegation to the Championship last season, he did produce some impressive individual performances as he emerged as a key player for the Hornets.

During the 33 league games that he participated in for Watford, Dennis managed to find the back of the net on 10 occasions whilst he also provided six assists for his team-mates.

With the 24-year-old’s current deal at Vicarage Road set to run until 2026, the Hornets will be in no rush to sell him this summer and thus a potential suitor may have to match their valuation.

When you consider that Watford’s new head coach Rob Edwards will be keen to stamp his authority on the club’s squad in the coming months, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Dennis.

The Verdict

Given that West Ham are currently assessing their options in terms of targets, Watford will need to wait to see whether the Premier League outfit opt to step up their pursuit next month.

Dennis illustrated last season that he is clearly more than capable of delivering the goods in the top-flight and thus he could prove to be a good addition for a team who are currently competing at this level.

Whereas Watford’s hopes of securing an immediate return to this division could be boosted if they are able to convince Dennis to stay, they will find it extremely difficult to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Keeping this in mind, it could be argued that the Hornets may find it beneficial to draft up a list of replacements for the forward in order to cover the possibility of him moving on to pastures new.
