Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Bristol City teenager Alex Scott but are unwilling to match the Robins’ valuation at this stage, according to transfer insider Alasdair Gold who spoke on his YouTube channel.

The Guernsey-born 18-year-old was a shining light for Nigel Pearson’s side during the 2021/22 campaign, recording an impressive 38 league appearances and recording four goals and two assists in the process.

His progress hasn’t gone unnoticed with Everton and Leicester City also thought to have been monitoring his situation at Ashton Gate ahead of a potential move, though it’s currently unclear whether they will follow up their interest with an official bid.

If they do, they are likely to face considerable competition from Spurs who are seemingly keen on making a move for the midfielder, who can play in the middle and out wide.

The Robins took the decision to tie the teenager down to a four-year contract last summer, extending his stay at the club until 2025, providing the player with long-term security and enabling the second-tier outfit to maximise his price tag.

With his contract situation giving Pearson’s side a considerable amount of power at the negotiating table, they are likely to have set a high price for Scott and Tottenham are unwilling to match that at the moment, as per insider Gold.

He said (via the Boot Room): “At the moment Bristol City’s valuation of him is a little bit higher than what Spurs want to pay.

“So there’s no movement on that right now, but maybe keep an eye on that one, because he’s a player they like.”

The Verdict:

As one of the most promising prospects in the second tier, it’s no surprise that Tottenham want to snap him up but they may need to do so in the next few months to stop his price from becoming even higher.

Although he’s on a long-term deal now, raising his price tag anyway, the 18-year-old is only likely to get better so concluding a deal in the coming months may be ideal if they want to strike the best possible deal for him.

If they can strike an agreement, it may even allow Antonio Conte’s side to sell him on for more in the future. Becoming accustomed to a wing-back system as well, Scott should have no trouble in terms of slotting in.

But from the midfielder’s point of view, it may make sense to wait a couple of years before moving on because he isn’t likely to become one of the first names on the teamsheet straight away at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He can’t afford to go back to youth football after making such a good impression in the second tier, so he would probably be wise to decline a move to the English capital if a deal was agreed between the two sides.
