Fulham midfielder Fabio Carvalho will be announced as a Liverpool player in the coming days following the end of the Cottagers’ season, according to Fabrizio Romano who spoke to Caught Offside.

A £7.7m agreement between the two sides for the 19-year-old was thought to have been struck last month – but Marco Silva’s side were still not promoted at that stage despite being in pole position to secure their return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

With the sides having a good relationship, the Reds have decided to delay the announcement of this addition out of respect for the second-tier side, with Carvalho being an integral part of the Cottagers’ first team this term.

Automatic promotion has now been sealed though and with their season coming to an end earlier this month because of that, Jurgen Klopp’s side are preparing to announce the addition of the teenager in the coming days.

It was previously unclear whether he would head straight back out on loan following his arrival at Anfield, with his current boss Silva admitting that he would love to have kept the midfielder in the English capital for longer.

reporter Romano believes the Merseyside outfit will keep him in their first-team squad for next season as things stand, potentially being included in their 25-man squad.

The Verdict:

This delay of the announcement will only go on to strengthen this good relationship between the two sides and that could be crucial in getting a permanent deal over the line for Neco Williams this summer if the Cottagers want to pursue that option.

The delay would have also helped Carvalho to concentrate on his own game and considering he was in fine form for the remainder of the season, this probably helped the second-tier side to get themselves over the line.

In terms of the 19-year-old being in the first team next season, it will be interesting to see how often he’s included because he is far from the finished package yet despite enjoying a fruitful season at Craven Cottage.

Some would argue that he should have remained in west London to maximise his playing time – but there will still be opportunities for the teenager at Anfield with the club likely to be competing in several competitions including the Champions League again next season.

The experience of training with world-class players will also be a valuable experience for the Fulham man, so it will be interesting to see how much he can develop over the next few years. He shouldn’t return to youth football though because he’s shown he can perform at a senior level.
