Ipswich Town have agreed a deal with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign Christian Walton on a permanent transfer according to Football Insider.

Walton has kept four clean sheets for the Tractor Boys this season in his ninth loan spell away from the Seagulls.

The former England U21 international has not had the most solid of defences in front of him at times this campaign, but in spite of that his performances have given Ipswich a fighting chance of keeping their distant play-off hopes alive in building towards the business end of the season.

Vaclav Hladky arrived at Portman Road from Salford City in the summer, but Walton has asserted his authority as the club’s number one in the first half of the campaign.

Supporters will believe that Walton could be their man in between the sticks for many years to come with his peak lying ahead of him at the age of just 26.

A lot was made of Ipswich’s 19 summer signings and how some have adjusted to their new environment much better than others.

Walton has been one of the most successful and after so many temporary stints away from Brighton in recent years, Suffolk could be just the destination for him to settle down at a very ambitious EFL club.

George Edmundson?

Celtic Derby County Motherwell Rangers

This would be an excellent signing for the Tractor Boys.

Walton has proved himself as a capable Championship goalkeeper in recent years and, before the emergence of Robert Sanchez, he looked destined to become Brighton’s first choice glovesman in the Premier League.

At 26, Walton would have had aspirations to be playing at a much higher level than League One, however with Ipswich’s clear ambition to earn promotion to the second tier and take the club back to its former glories, the step down will not feel like a long term one.

Kieran McKenna has made an exciting start as Ipswich manager and persuading Walton to sign on a permanent basis would be a great move in hoping to minimise their goals against column in the long run.
