It has been claimed that Burnley made an offer of around €20m for Braga striker Vitinha but that offer was rejected by the Portuguese club.

Vincent Kompany has been desperate to strengthen his attack this month and the Clarets have now finalised a deal for Lyle Foster, whilst Michael Obafemi is set to join as well.

However, it appears the Championship leaders had other players on their radar, as Sport Italia have stated that Burnley put down a mega-money offer for Vitinha, who has shone in Portugal this season, however it was immediately turned down as they chase a bigger fee.

The 22-year-old has scored seven goals in the league and is impressing with his all-round game.

The update adds that several Premier League clubs are monitoring the player, along with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, so it would have been a real coup if Burnley had convinced the player to join.

With Kompany’s side 18 points clear of third place and playing some terrific football, it does seem inevitable that they will be playing in the Premier League next season.

Did John Guidetti ever score a goal for Burnley after joining on loan?

Yes No

The verdict

This would have been some signing for Burnley and whilst it would normally be a surprise to see a Championship side stump up this amount of cash, you can understand why the Clarets will be supremely confident of promotion.

Of course, that won’t be the attitude of Kompany or the players but they will be an attractive option for players due to their position in the league and it’s right they try to take advantage of that.

Clearly, this was a deal that couldn’t happen but with Foster and Obafemi coming in, Kompany will be pleased with how his squad looks moving forward.
